Frequently asked questions
Will this widget slow down my site?
The widget loads inside a lazy-loaded iframe that totals under 50 KB. It makes no external requests during page load, and optional usage beacons on user interaction are non-blocking, so it will not affect your Core Web Vitals or Lighthouse score.
Does it work on WordPress?
Yes. Open the block editor, add a Custom HTML block, and paste the embed code. The widget renders immediately in the preview and on your published page.
How does the comparison work?
The widget pulls verified policy data for 11 major cruise lines and displays it side by side across baggage, gratuities, alcohol, dress code, and smoking. Rows where one line has a clearly better value (lower gratuities, lower corkage, BYO allowed, a larger checked-bag allowance) get a winner highlight. Preference rows like dress code and smoking are shown without a winner, and any line with no published figure shows "Not published".
Will the data stay current?
Yes. The widget pulls from a verified database of 11 cruise lines that is updated regularly, with each policy block tracking its own source and "last verified" date. When we update the data, every embedded widget reflects the change automatically.
Can I customize the colors and default cruise lines?
Yes. The widget supports light and dark themes, a custom accent color via hex code to match your brand, adjustable corner radius, compact mode for sidebar embeds, and a default cruise line pair via URL parameters. Use the customizer on this page to configure all options visually.
Do I need to create an account or pay anything?
No. The widget is completely free with no registration, API keys, or usage limits. We log anonymous usage events (widget loads, interactions, embedding domain, country, device class) so we can improve coverage. No cookies, no personal data. Paste the code and it works.
What platforms does it support?
Any platform that allows HTML embeds: WordPress, Squarespace, Ghost, Webflow, Wix (HTML embed widget), Jekyll, Hugo, Astro, Next.js, and static HTML sites.
Can I remove the Powered by Travel Vient link?
The attribution line that sits directly below the widget must remain visible. It is a small, unobtrusive credit that helps us fund ongoing data verification and maintenance.
